Sperm morphology (Strict Criteria) has proved to be the single most important semen parameter to predict fertility rates and pregnancy outcome in assisted reproduction.

General demand has urged development of a self-teaching program which will enable you to evaluate sperm morphology according to Strict Criteria. The basis of the strict criteria is an approach to sperm morphology evaluation that utilizes optimal preparation methods and evaluation procedures and criteria for a morphological normal spermatozoon, based on biological evaluation.

The strict (Tygerberg) criteria have been shown to have definitive advantages over other criteria evaluation methods in the prediction of both in vivo and in vitro fertilization rates, and are rapidly becoming the gold standard used by all IVF and andrology units worldwide.

The program, known as Strict 1-2-3, consists of computer software plus five microscope slides each containing different sperm populations.

The software version of Strict 1-2-3 contains a complete automated tutorial and technician-test database program. This includes the same information as the manual program with a set of 5 reference slides which further enhance the training and understanding of Strict Criteria. This program requires DOS 5 or higher, VGA graphics, 386 or higher or Windows 95.

Although it is not included in this package, it is recommended that the Strict 1-2-3 CD-ROM be used in conjunction with the Atlas of Human Sperm Morphology Evaluation (also by T.F. Kruger and D.R. Franken). This atlas, when used in conjunction with the CD-ROM, will give individuals the ability to train and test their diagnostic capability and enable laboratories to implement quality control measures.
